Our Story

Babies by the Bay first opened its doors in 2010 with a centre in Double Bay. Nestled in the heart of the village and overlooking the harbour foreshore, it quickly became a much-loved part of the local community.

Following its success, in 2012 the Little Palace Preschool in South Cronulla was acquired and transformed into Babies by the Bay Cronulla. The charming Californian Bungalow setting, positioned beside Darook Park and Gunnamatta Bay, provided the perfect environment for children to thrive.

In 2016, a remarkable State Heritage Listed home in Cammeray Village on Sydney’s Lower North Shore was discovered. Built in 1886 by Sir Joseph Palmer Abbott, the home carried a rich history. With approval from the Land and Environment Court, it was thoughtfully converted into a centre that honours its past — now known as Tarella House Early Learning Centre.

Most recently, in 2021, the long-established Mimi’s Kindergarten in Cronulla was taken over. Originally founded in 1959 by Judith Hewison OAM as a children’s guesthouse and one of NSW’s first long day care centres, Mimi’s was lovingly transformed into Babies by the Bay at Mimi’s, keeping its beautiful legacy alive.

As the vision grew beyond Sydney, a flagship regional centre was established in Wagga Wagga. This expansion marked an important step in bringing the same high-quality early learning and nurturing environments to families in rural NSW, ensuring more children benefit from the Babies by the Bay philosophy.

Together, our centres create a connected community where children are inspired to learn, grow, and belong.

Childcare subsidy

We are a recognised Childcare Provider and registered for the Childcare Subsidy. All our families are eligible for Government assistance if they meet the criteria set out by the Commonwealth Government.

So what is included in our fees?

• Age appropriate educational program including school readiness program and transition to school statements
• Trained educators with vast experience in early childcare.
• Fresh nutritious meals prepared by our own in house chefs including puree for babies meeting the nutritional requirements by Munch and Move.
• Online digital communication of learning stories as it happens
